Real work isn't what it's cracked up to be. Come in early, watch the clock all day...maybe have to work hard. The author of these tales and anecdotes thinks that he had a better arrangement in terms of the twenty-eight years he spent coaching internationally. The various tenures in thirteen countries were almost always enjoyable, and certainly never boring. He enjoyed flying around the world at employers' expense, staying in many 5-star hotels, sampling the cuisine of the world, and getting paid to do it. Just for giving practices a couple of hours a day and coaching his teams during games.
These stories, spanning stays in Europe, Brazil, Malaysia and the Middle East (as well as the USA), are not technically about basketball, but spin-offs from a great variety of travel and experiences. The tales range from comical through serious, and some are a bit bizarre. Coach Stewart is is the author of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Beirut, which chronicles a portion of a season with his Saudi Arabian National Team.

Czechoslovakia...My best player kidnapped (?) in the middle of the night; New York...An account of

Just finished Coach Pat's latest tome, "Way Better Than A Real Job." I thoroughly enjoyed Pat's many escapades and experiences throughout Asia/Europe/Middle East/etc coaching basketball. Coach Stewart has an easy to read writing style and folksy manner that is quite engaging and often humorous. Pat's family shared many of Coach Stewart's zany adventures--my hat goes off to them. The book is not all quirkiness and hoops, however, Coach Pat also delves into some of his deepest and most tragic experiences, and also his odyssey to Christian faith. I found those chapters the most moving.Product details

Way Better Than a Real Job Global Hoops People Stories eBook Pat Stewart Reviews
If you like basketball and have any sense of humor, this is a great read; I had trouble putting it down. It is a very easy read and I found myself laughing out loud at several of the stories.
A fast and fun read. It's like sitting at the table listening to Pat tell stories of his coaching career in some really unusual places around the world. This book makes me wish I had done more exploring the world in my younger days. Once you start it's hard to put the book down until you are done.
Pat Stewart's book was down right fun reading. This is the second book I have read, written by Pat Stewart and his humor is exceptional. His stories about his travels and exploits around the globe are both hilarious and thought provoking at the same time. I am envious of the life he has lead all who read this book will come away entertained.
If you love basketball, geography or both, you will love Pat Stewart's book (Way Better Than A Real Job). I could not put the book down once I started reading it. Pat's experiences as an international basketball coach were unique - filled with ups and downs - and a great read whether or not you have ever been involved in international basketball.
I loved this book! It is a book about relationships in the world of basketball but I wouldn't call it a sports book. It's also about travel with many ideas on great places to visit that you normally would pass up. Pat is a very funny story teller in his dealings with the players and owners of these teams. If you like to learn a little geography, smile and laugh a lot and cry a wee bit, you will love it too!
Having just finished Pat's "Way Better Than A Real Job" on the heels of his first book, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Beirut", I can attest this sequel is filled with even more personal anecdotes and vignettes of his global encounters with everyone he has interfaced through the prism and platform of basketball. Only Pat can deliver and bring these short stories to life by his effective, witty narrative that makes the reader feel he is almost a part of the numerous teams that Pat has coached during his thirty year career. I found myself LOL often as he hopscotches his way from chapter to chapter and country to country. What a relational creature who doubles as the alter ego writer!
Amazing insight from a man that provided for himself and his family a life traveling abroad as a professional basketball coach.Providing a fascinating adventure for them and his readers.Puts you right there with them! Full of characters witty and funny.Wriiten with a light heart that makes you feel good for most the book. There are serious chapters towards the end that are most greiveous,To say the least! My heart was ripped right from my chest. The author his family and friends get thru this with a strong Christian belief. What a friend we have in Jesus! I found the book very entertaining. Then towards the end was struck with grief. Then a spiritual uplift which all caught me by surprise. In all you've led a great life GRADY PATRICK STEWART.Thanks for sharing."keep them comin".
